Through
the last ten years our championship has grown from a small class, sharing
races with other categories, to a flourishing series with a register of
over 60 cars and competitive grids often exceeding 30 cars. Cars date
from the pre-1972 era and represent the early years of the rapid growth
of Formula Ford. Cars are registered with the Historic Sports Car Club
or the Federation Internationale de L'Automobile, who ensure that cars
are authentic and were constructed in era.

The growing popularity of historic Formula Ford has come from the pleasure of running authentic, well restored cars, from close exciting racing and from great value for money. By racing in an historic series our members benefit from avoiding the rapid loss in value that often follows the purchase of modern machinery. Run a historic Formula Ford for a few years and you are likely to recover most of your initial investment. Some of our members even claim that their cars proved to be appreciating assets. In short, historic Formula Fords are cheap and fun to run. The car's engine is reliable and the chassis is simple. Some run engines for two years without a rebuild. Performance of the car is very good. A car on the minimum weight of 420kg with a good engine delivers nearly 250 bhp/ton. Lap times are generally faster than both Formula Junior and 1-litre Formula 3 cars. We believe that Formula Ford gives you the best performance per pound in historic racing. Added to which, these machines are capable of speeds in excess of 110mph. Couple with a light, nimble chassis, they make a fantastic inroduction to racing. Racing is very close.
Typically, a second and a half separates lap times of the first ten cars
on the grid, this means that whatever your driving standards, you will
always be racing with other competitors. Most importantly the cars are
easy to drive. Ask anyone in the series and they will tell you that once
you learn to drive a Formula Ford you will be able to perform well in
other, much more powerful, cars.
